Choosing the name for the very first line-up of pilots in the ArcaBoard World Championship is a tribute to the legacy of Romanian aviation and cosmonautics.
Here is the fascinating story behind the SQUADRON N10 designation:
1916 — Squadron Nieuport 10 (N10): During World War I, Squadron N10 operated from the airfield in Răcăciuni (Bacău County), flying Nieuport 10 fighter aircraft — true pioneers of the skies who wrote historic pages in Romanian aviation.
2006 — ArcaSpace Mission 1: 90 years later, ArcaSpace launched Mission 1 from Onești. A massive solar balloon lifted the Stabilo suborbital maned capsule high into the stratosphere. Following a successful mission, the capsule landed under its recovery parachute right in Răcăciuni, where it was retrieved by the ArcaSpace recovery team.
2026 — ArcaBoard Squadron N10: 110 years after the founding of that historic aviation unit, the world’s first pilots to race the ArcaBoard 2 will proudly carry the title of Squadron N10.
The 24 pilots (12 main grid pilots and 12 reserve pilots) selected for Season I are more than just competitors on a track, they are the successors of a long tradition of pioneering spirit, courage, and technical excellence.
