Historical Archives, Part 21 - Romania's most advanced drone

October 30, 2014 - The AirStrato, High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Drone, Prototype 3, during assembly and avionics integration at ArcaSpace.

The drone was extremely advanced for its time and even by today's standards, featuring:

- satellite connectivity for flight control and telemetry in real time with algorithms to compensate for network delays;

- redundant 500km range radio flight control and telemetry;

- automatic navigation;

- high speed, wide band, data link between drones;

- 4k 500mbps resolution gimbal stabilised camera pods;

- HD, IRST gimbal stabilised cameras;

- real time satellite video broadcast;

- virtually unlimited airborne capabilities due to its solar cells and batteries needed to power the electric motors.

The footage was filmed with a Canon 5D II, in full HD. The full HD footage was upscaled to 4K.
